GLHF and don’t get to discouraged by the trash talk/getting owned. The community is generally pretty cool (has gotten a tad worse recently) because we all just wanna see the game grow. Even with the flaws it’s a satisfying game with a ton of fun to be had and skills to be learned. So basically if the genre interests you, do it. Nothing scratches that afps itch like quake and there’s just so few left that although QC has obvious flaws it’s probably the best one out there I think the thing is there really isn’t an alternative Or you could download the Epic Games Launcher and try finding a match in Diabotical, or better yet, find the last 3 nerds still playing the Unreal Tournament 4 Alpha. In terms of alternatives, if you end up unsatisfied and are willing to take a beating, I guess you could try Quake Live, because that game still has some players, but I haven't so far, even though I own the game. It'll feel amazing when you get better though. It's definitely rewarding if you have the patience to get rekt in the beginning and stick with it for a while.

The game has some flaws (as browsing the posts on this sub will show you) but it's the biggest arena shooter I know of and thus the easiest to get into. Now whether it's "worth it" is up to you. It's just a small game and probably will be for the foreseeable future. So if you're wondering whether the game is still alive, it is. Player numbers have been low but pretty stable the past 3 years and since the game went out of early access last month, they even increased a bit. There are a few devs that roam this reddit.
